Okay Indy Endeavor
I like a good indy flick. I shows that there film makers out there looking to do something away from the Hollywood mindset. This is a decent enough entry into that territory.
Here's the scoop. Bethany lives with her overbearing, overprotective mom and brother. Mom and dad are divorced because dad figured out he was gay. She can no longer stand being smothered so she hightails it to live with dad and his boyfriend in dad's trailer. She gets a job and works at applying to a high ranking fashion institute but the road to happiness is a rough one.
This is rather typical in its approach. You have a handful of quirky characters and a mission. Mom (Anna Gunn) is frumpy and loves the color pink and home schools her kids. The color infests Bethany's closet. Dad (Diedrich Bader) is just the opposite. He's a gay used car salesman with a disorganized life and a love for alcohol. His boyfriend (a surprising Haley Joel Osment) is cool and supportive of Bethany but is growing...
Liked this movie
Was not as funny as I was hoping .. but wanted to see how Haley Joel Osment had grown up ..
Haley Joel is Great! Movie had potential - not bad but could have been so much more!
There are parts of this movie that I loved. There are other parts where I just found the characters too annoying to be realistic. Sure, they may exist somewhere but thank God, not near where I live. I think Haley Joel took a huge risk with this part and it is clear that he embraced it fully! I congratulate him on that! Other characters, especially the dad, were simply not sympathetic or realistic. I have wanted to buy this movie since it was first screened. I would still buy this movie because I would like to support the cast and team involved in its production. We need more independent films like this one and everyone should support it. But, don't expect a work of art or something profound. Its simply not that type of film.
