Harbor Command: The Complete Series

HARBOR COMMAND - COMES OUT OF THE VAULTS - SEPT 17, 2013
With the recent releases of Highway Patrol, Ripcord and categorically of the same genre, fans will be delighted to see HARBOR COMMAND being resurrected from the vaults and now being given a release date of September 17, 2013. Airing only one season (October 11, 1957 - July 4, 1958) for 39 Black and White episodes (in a 25 minute time format), HARBOR COMMAND starred Wendall Corey and Casey Walters and focused on the exploits and adventures of the United States Coast Guard Harbor Command based out of San Francisco. As with many of these wonderful vintage programs, they did not need to rely on profane exchanges or excessive graphic violence to hold and keep your interest and were, with good execution of the scripting, able to get in some good character developments despite the half hour time constraint. Below is a list of the episodes and a brief summary.

Some of the special guest stars of this short lived series included:
Dick Bernie, Ed Nelson, Steve Mitchell, Dale Van...
Superbly nostalgic series from the late 1950s
I concur with everything that the previous reviewer writes - this was an excellent series, largely due to the strikingly atmospheric location photography - a marvellous snapshot of the times, with granite-jawed Wendell Corey aptly cast as the unsmiling, no-nonsense lead. Timeless have already put us greatly in their debt with a whole series of archival products, but this must be one of the rarest titles that they have decided to bring out, so my advice is to place an order without delay - you will not be disappointed with this fascinating look at longshore life from 55 years ago.

Timeless Horror - Movies 4 You

MGM Finally unleashes some of the Horror Classics they've been hoarding
MGM owns sooo many old Horror (ahem) Classics that they do nothing with but hoard. Putting 4 titles like this together is a great idea as I'm sure the wackos like me who keep their eye out for movies like "Face Of Marble" (a cool little flick, btw) are few and far between. However it would be even greater if two of the titles weren't previously released on DVD via their Midnite Movies series. I'm pretty sure these are just meant to be one of those cheap DVD items you pick up while checking out at Walmart so I'm sure not much care or TLC is going into them. But hopefully more goodies will finally find a home on DVD through this series.
The Face of marble...A Monogram classic
Finally, The great "B" movie classic staring John Carradine, "The Face Of Marble" is coming to DVD.
Monogram Picture Corporation deserves more recognition for producing films with really cool atmosphere and I haven't seen The Face Of Marble for years.
Now it's time for the DVD relaeas of Columbia's "Murder In Times Square" starring Edmond Lowe and all of the original "East Side Kids" starring Leo Gorcey & Huntz Hall.
The Bowery Boys are becoming available on DVD but if you watch Turner Classic Movies you would had recently seen them all.
TCM has also showed "The Whistler" series starring Richard Dix but for some reason failed to include "The Mark Of The Whistler" and The 13th Hour.
It's time for a DVD release of the entire series.

THE FACE OF MARBLE
THE FACE OF MARBLE --- of course --- is the reason to buy THIS collection. The other three titles a-r-e available
in, virtually, every [obsolete] video format.
None of these movies're good enough to "write home about", heck, except to horror-completists, none of these, but,
--- ironically --- #1, are even w-o-r-t-h taking the time writing a review about.

Sorry.

Give THE FACE OF MARBLE a chance. The price, alone, is worth the +/- $5.

Despite all four movies being on one disc, the quality of the video and audio is NOT compromised. As usual*, there are no individual movie chapter-stops, nor is there the standard time-lapsed indicator displayed on your disc player.

I'm thinking these films have been put on disc so their original nitrate film elements can be left to deteriorate in
peace... and obscurity. RIP: Richard Boone, etal!

Sahara

Light hearted adventure romp...good fun - DVD please
I saw this movie many years ago on television.
It's a 1984 movie that was inspired by the disappearance of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's son in a trans-Sahara rally, Brooke Sheilds plays Dale who enrolls in a trans-Africa auto race following the death of her father before being abducted by an Arabian sheik.
Directing the movie is Andrew V. McLaglen who also directed some other very entertaining adventure movies such as THE WILD GEESE, THE SEA WOLVES and one of my all-time favorite action adventure movies FFOLKES (Known as NORTH SEA HIJACK in Europe).
This movie seems lost between trying to appeal to both the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK crowd and the Harlequin romantic drama fans and is somewhat successful on both counts,. Still some great imagery and beautiful photography are the definite high points in addition to a very appealing looking Sheilds.
Leave your brain at the door and sit back for some good old fashioned popcorn choming fun. I really do like...
Excellent!!!
I enjoyed the funny antics, the mystery, the adventures, and the racing in the desert of Saudi Arabia. It made you feel like a noble nomad of the desert. The actors were awesome!! It was definitely worth having, especially for the 80's. Old and very interesting to watch over and over, again.
Fun adventure
This movie was light and entertaining. The scenery was lovely and the acting was good. Lambert Wilson the love interest for Brooke Shields is gorgeous and someone I wouldn't mind being caught in Saudi Arabia with.
