Mary Poppins: 50th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy)

Now available in a 2-disc DVD edition!
Mary Poppins may be =the= stand-out live-action movie that Disney has ever produced. Or will ever produce.

All the songs are very memorable. Who out there does not find themselves humming or even singing along with the likes of "Chim-Chim-Cheree" or "Spoonful of Sugar"?

Julie Andrews will always be remembered for her role as Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke absolutely shines as Bert the Chimney Sweep. Van Dyke also plays the senior officer of the bank - and has his very best scene where he realizes that the punchline - "A wooden leg named Smith" - is funny. Andrews won an Academy Award for Mary Poppins, and the movie also won Best Visual Effects, and Best Music Score, as well as Best Song ("Chim Chim Cher-ee").

The scene where "I love to laugh" is particularly poignant. Ed Wynn died not long after the release of Mary Poppins, and shows some of his best comedy style in this scene. Very laughable.

The story is top-notch and has a wonderful...
Disney's Live Masterpiece Shines More Brightly than Ever!
"Mary Poppins" is one of that select group of films that can truly be called 'Classic', a project conceived in love and filled with so much child-like wonder that it will never grow old or 'out-of-date'. Certainly the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's remarkable career, the "Mary Poppins" 40th Anniversary Special Edition is simply magnificent!

Based on P.L. Travers' tales of a magical nanny who arrives to bring families closer, the rights to the stories had been pursued by Disney since 1938, but Travers had seen what studios had done to other authors' works, and withheld her approval unless she could maintain some creative control. Years of negotiations only whetted Disney's desire to make a definitive, truly 'special' film, and by 1960, despite the box office failure of another fantasy-themed 'pet' project, "Darby O'Gill and the Little People", he was more confident than ever in the story's potential, bringing together a remarkable array of talent, including...
Great for 1st Time Buyers; extras emphasize Broadway Musical
Is there really much new to say about this classic Disney film that helped launch the movie career of Julie Andrews? Probably not, but for the handful of people who haven't seen this film, this DVD is a must-buy. Strangely enough, Disney is not releasing a Blu-ray version just yet, so this edition will have to tide over video buffs until that occurs. The 1964 classic is based on the books of P. L. Travers, with a few Disney liberties thrown in. Travers' nanny, Mary Poppins, is somewhat more harsh and unpleasant in the books than in the film version. However, it is obvious that she is hiding a heart of gold inside and that she truly does love the children she takes care. Two of the children did not make the transition from the book, but they are definitely not missed. Julie Andrews is able to bring out the many facets of Mary Poppins without compromising the character, and of course her voice is legendary. The Sherman Brothers whipped up some of their most memorable tunes including...

The Great Muppet Caper And Muppet Treasure Island: Of Pirates & Pigs2-Movie Collection [Blu-ray]

Great purchase
I purchased this set because I remembered Muppet Caper as a child and really wanted to get my hands on my long time favourite movie. It was just as i remembered and what made it even better I had Treasure Island to see for the first time. It comes with 2 tins filled with muppet stickers, note pad, pencils and sharpener (i gave these to my 2 kids...they love it.) Great purchase!!
The Great Muppet Caper / Muppet Treasure Island
I'm excited to finally own all the theatrical Muppet films on Blu-Ray.
I personally believe that 'The Great Muppet Caper' should be featured on the left side, and the Muppet Treasure should be on the right, so they go in order by release. Nonetheless, I'm not bothered it is a double feature because I can get both films for the price of one, which is actually very low considering the Muppet Movie is the same price and that's only for one film.
The disc (assuming it's a single disc, this is Disney) will include the following special features:
- The Tale of the Story Beyond the Tail, a making-of look at Muppet Treasure Island
- Muppet Treasure Island Audio Commentary
- "Frog-E-Oke" sing-along
- "Let the Good Shine Out"
- A preview of Muppets Most Wanted
and if Disney re-uses the 2005 DVD releases in this set, then
Muppet Trasure Island DVD should feature Widescreen + Fullscreen prestentaion and Pepe Profiles: Fozzy Bear; and the Great Muppet...
My Dream 2-Movie Team
Aside from 'Disney's The Muppets' released in 2011, 'Muppet Treasure Island' and 'The Great Muppet Caper' are two of my favorite Muppet movies. I also liked 'The Muppets' Christmas Carol' and 'The Muppet Movie'...'Muppets From Space' is so-so, but for some reason I couldn't seem to get into 'The Muppets Take Manhattan' (I never even seen the full movie).
The way I see it, this combo pack was released so they could have all the prior theatrical Muppet movies on Blu-ray format, before 'Disney's The Muppets Most Wanted' is released in 2014. For me personally, this double feature is a 'dream team' since I loved both movies and the price is 'affordable' for my budget...I just might have to consider the Blu-ray versions of the other four Muppet film I don't have on Blu-ray, since I have 'Disney's The Muppets' on Blu-ray combo pack and all the other Muppet films on DVD. For some reason, if I like something I tend to (as I call it) 'Upgrade' if I can to the next home media format they...

Mickey's Christmas Carol 30th Anniversary - Special Edition (DVD +Digital Copy)

Wonderful! Can't wait!
This is a great Christmas animated feature. Plus it does come with additional Christmas short cartoons. This will be a must have if you are a Disney fan.
Christmas Classic
This has always been one of my favorite things to watch around Christmastime. We had it recorded on a VHS tape when I was growing up and I was very happy to see it came on a dvd and then a blu-ray. The quality's great for a Disney cartoon (obviously much better than my old VHS version). Love it love it love it. Every family should have this one!
Question?
I'm curious. Does anyone know what the other holiday shorts are? I wish a Walt Disney Christmas & a Disney christmas gift are included!!! Those two along with carol were my favorite Disney holiday VHS movies!!!

Iron Man 3 (Three-Disc Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy)

A Rousing Movie; Different from What I Expected
Let me start by saying that I can understand why there are a lot of split opinions about IRON MAN 3. It's a film full of misdirection and deceptions, and I was a little distressed by a couple of them - which would give away too much to detail here. Suffice it to say that there were a couple of moments I felt somewhat cheated; and though I'll be vague about it I can say it involved Mandarin. Still, read on; while I gave the movie four stars, I believe down the road I might very well revise this to a five. I'll explain...

First of all, rest assured there is A LOT of action. And there are a lot of the Iron Suits, too...it's just that Tony Stark isn't often the one IN the suit. I found myself often frustrated by that fact: Iron Man interruptus, if you will. Either the suits were off on their own, or they were on other people, or they weren't working properly...something that seemed to occur almost constantly.

I saw it in Imax 3D, and it was well worth the extra...
Iron Man 3 - a fun but disappointing entry in the series
NOTE: There are minor spoilers in this review, but nothing that would deter from your overall enjoyment of the film.

While I enjoyed this movie and had a fun time, I think "Iron Man 3" is the weakest of the Iron Man trilogy. That's not to say it's a bad film, it just means that I liked the previous two Iron Man films better than this one. I should state that while I've become a big fan of Marvel movies, I was never a big reader of comic books - so my feelings toward the film are more about it's merits/flaws as a movie experience (rather than how true it is to the comics).

I think about how far we've come since the first "Iron Man" (and it's not in a particularly good direction). That film was refreshing because it played everything totally realistically - everything was tech-based, there was nothing supernatural. And now, in the third film of the series, we've moved on to Extremis (which is by far the most un-realistic concept in any of the three films). Now I'm...
solid 3rd entry
I thought this one was way better than the 2nd. Good story and great action its just when I think when they try to be funny it doesn't work sometimes but otherwise I enjoyed it a lot! I recommend this to any Marvel comic movie buff. Another thumbs up for Marvel!

Sofia the First: Ready to Be a Princess

Five Fun Episodes from a Great Show!
My girls (ages 3 and 6) love Sofia the First and we have every episode on our DVR, including all of the episodes from this DVD. The show is great for its cute characters, wonderful songs and fun adventures. It always has a positive message and teaches kids valuable lessons in every episode. My girls have been obsessed with the movie and all the shows, and really look forward to each new episode that airs.

This DVD contains five great episodes from the first season. Amazon doesn't always do a good job on their DVD episode listings so here are the episodes that are included on this DVD:
1. A Royal Mess - James breaks a stained glass window in the castle and Sofia covers for him so he can go to the Goldenwing Circus.
2. The Shy Princess - Sofia helps a shy classmate named Vivian and Clover makes a new Dragon friend (great song in this episode).
3. Blue Ribbon Bunny - Clover the rabbit shows off his talents.
4. The Princess Test - The princesses learn...
Sofia the First helpful princess!
Disney princesses have been inspiring girls for a long time with their radiant beauty and grace. Sofia has humble beginnings and is adopted into a royal family. She wears a magical amulet that enables her to talk to animals. While we can't relate to speaking with animals, we can understand Sofia's insecurities and we can learn many valuable lessons from her. The Ready To Be A Princess collection has five episodes that teach lessons about lying, gossiping, keeping promises, kindness and overcoming your fears. As a parent this is my favorite princess and my kids enjoyed the show as well.
Gift for my daughter
My daughter is a huge fan of Sofia the first. She loves everything Disney. I surprised her with this gift and her eyes just lit up when I showed her what I bought. A must buy for every little girl who love this show.

One of the most beloved Disney films, "The Little Mermaid" returns on dvd, fully restored and remastered in an all new 2 disc set this October! Rather than talking about the film (c'mon we all know what it is all about and most of are quite familiar with its charm and beauty! Here's what to look forward to in this special 2 disc set:

Wait for Platinum Edition this October 2006!
Walt Disney Studio's 1989 animated adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's classic tale "The Little Mermaid" is known for being the beginning of the Disney animation renaissance of the 1990s. While no movie collection is complete without this gem of a film, wait for the October 2006 2-Disc Platinum Edition DVD release. Judging from Disney's treatment of their other classic films' transfers to Platinum Editions, Disney will do this movie the justice it deserves AND it will most likely be less expensive buying this new edition with all its extras than it will be to buy the currently available 1-Disc product from a private seller. So, if you can wait a few months for the headstrong Ariel, the charming Sebastian, and the deliciously evil Ursula, it will be more than worth the wait!
Good if you don't mind minor edits
Finally got around to watching this last night. In this review I'm not going to bother to review the movie itself. It's seventeen years old. I'm sure if you are interested in it you've seen it by now. Rather, I'm going to review the technical quality of the film and the extras provided on the DVD. One thing that feel I should point out up front is that the movie HAS been edited, but only in one scene. The infamous 'clergyman sporting an erection' that caused such a stupid flundie flap has been photoshopped. The theatrical poster artwork is not on the cover or anywhere on the disc for a similar reason. You can find out more by going to Snopes and looking in the Disney films section. I personally don't care, but some people do. Now, on to the review.

This version is widescreen, but it's 16:9 widescreen and not theatrical widescreen, but this has been the case in pretty much all the Disney movie DVDs so no surprises there. The Little Mermaid was the next to last movie Disney...

Marvel's Avengers Assemble: Assembly Required

Really Marvel? 2 episodes
Sorry Pass.... wait for a 13 or 26 episode release, oh and bring back EMH while your at it, AA is an awful replacement. *Just wanted to edit my review slightly as it appears based on the now revealed running time (112 minuuets) that there will be at least 3 "bonus" episodes. One of these has been revealed as a Hulk & The Agents of SMASH episode "Galactus Goes Green", which as of this date has not even aired on Disney (that I assume will change, although EMH S2 had an episode that never aired at all for some odd reason...). The others will probably be an Ultimate Spider-Man and something else featuring as many crossovers as possible. Bonus Episodes are nice, but still not enough to justify a purchase especially when a season is 26 episodes long.

With only half of USM S1 on DVD to date (and the 13 disc 2 DVD set didn't even have the episodes in order, just randomly chosen episodes featuring other heroes), this could get messy very fast. Its nice Disney has three shows with...
Have to agree with the one star guy. However...
Loved "Earth's Mightiest Heroes"! Marvel has made a huge mistake by sacrificing character development for better animation. A good story can be told with stick figures and still be a good story. I guess you can tell I am not impressed with "Avengers Assemble". If I wanted this type of story telling I would watch "Marvel Superhero Squad" more often(Hero up!). But really, a two episode release!? If it was better than EMH I would probably buy it. So far the writers of these "Squadies" have not shown any promise in these first two episodes. Go back to the EMH formula and release a 13 episode or more DVD and I will buy it.
2 Episodes?!
what's the next release going to have?
1 episode?!
this show has hardly begun airing the 1st season!
you can thank Disney for buying Marvel for this strategy.
