Joy Ride [Blu-ray]

Don't buy Joy Ride on Blu-Ray disc
Joy Ride Blu-Ray disc is a hack job of the Joy Ride DVD, Special Edition Disc. The Special Edition DVD actually gave the viewer two different movies that could be watched on different nights, so the viewer could think about and reflect on the film, or if so desired both could be watched together.

This blu-ray lacks the famous scene of Paul Walker chasing the truck while nude, as the truck is leaving the truck stop. It's in the extras as are the alternate endings. The extras are in small screen, low res, confusing order, and really not worth watching. Really confusing if you had not watched the 'Special Edition DVD'.

This Blu-Ray cost $12.74. The 'Special Edition' can be purchased for $5.00 or less, a real deal.

This is the second Blu-Ray disc of an older film that I have purchased that was changed and disappointed me. I still have ten Blu-Ray Discs of older films I have not watched yet. By older films, I mean films originally on DVD and then...
GREAT & WELL DONE SUSPENSEFUL/THRILLER RIDE ,LOVED IT!
I'm so happy this flick Finally comes to BLU-RAY ,I have this flick on DVD for many years and really wants to see it release on blu-ray and did Pre-order it already ..Real like the movie ...WELL Done & VERY suspenseful, be on edge ur seat most of the times, & even some of the parts is SCARY & ALSO the most scariest thing about this flick, IS Sooo surrealistic & could happen to anyone doing that joke to wrong person in the road trip, This flick got good acting, cast ,camera shot & well done script ,TOP of that Paul Walker here, was in his mid 20s in this flick & he soo HOT & sexi in this movie ,his just a gorgeous man from head to toe .. and also shows his body & butt in this flick 2...Wink :P
Anyway don't miss this masterpiece..... Trust me, IS REAL GOOD SOLID B Suspenseful /Thriller ride & MUST HAVE IN UR COLLECTION!
Good movie
Was one of my favorite movies when i was in HS. Still a huge fan of it. Walker is great in this movie. 2nd one was horrible. But this was pretty good IMO

Letter to Three Wives: 65th Anniversary [Blu-ray]

FOX DELIVERS "LETTER" WITH A GREAT BLU RAY
Anyone who had any doubts about whether to upgrade from the previous "Studio Classics" DVD that Fox released in 2005 can put all those doubts away. Released this week, "A Letter to Three Wives"(1949) looks nearly pristine on Blu-ray and once again credit should be given to the great restoration team at Fox. Filmed in black and white, "Letter" has never looked better than it does in this new Blu-ray from Fox. There is no print damage(vertical lines, specs, torn or missing frames, etc.) and some of the close-ups are stunning to say the least. Blacks, whites and grays are evenly balanced right down to the costumes, automobiles(I'd love to have that "Woody" that Jeanne Crain drives),household items and even the famous "letter" that the three wives receive in the beginning of the picture. My only complaint would be that some scenes seem to be overly bright but they are few and are not distracting and may have something to do with the print source rather than the restoration. Nearly...
Unexpected Blu-ray release for landmark Mankiewicz masterpiece
Joseph L. Mankiewicz's 1949 character drama A LETTER TO THREE WIVES provides a tour-de-force showcase for three outstanding female stars, and illustrates a timeless dilemma that most every married woman must have considered at least once during her marriage...

On their way to chaperone a childrens' picnic, girlfriends Deborah Bishop (Jeanne Crain), Rita Phipps (Ann Sothern) and Lora Mae Hollingsway (Linda Darnell) receive a mysterious letter - addressed to all of them - in which local good-time gal Addie Ross reveals that she has left town, and taken one of their husbands with her! Too late to call off their involvement with the picnic and return home to uncover the truth, the ladies spend quiet moments to themselves, and try to recall incidents that might have caused rifts in their marriages...

Deborah remembers the night that husband Brad (Jeffrey Lynn) first introduced her to Rita, Lora Mae, and their close circle of friends. The insecure farmgirl originally...
A must-have; whether or not on Blu-Ray remains to be seen
Perhaps the best thing about the imminent Blu-Ray release of this undisputed classic is that now the regulation DVD is so much more affordable. The perpetual question when a Golden Age of Hollywood film is released to Blu-Ray--or whatever future home video formats come down the pike--is: is it worth getting the new version if you already have a copy you're reasonably satisfied with? Or even if you don't have one? (As I say, now you can get the standard DVD a lot cheaper.) In a perfect world, of course, every film about to presented in Blu-Ray would get the star treatment, so to speak, the new edition automatically being an optimum print. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Whenever a particular favorite film of mine--and A LETTER TO THREE WIVES is close to the top--comes out on Blu-Ray, I look forward to reading reviews which specify the advantages that justify the higher price or further investment, or whether to save my money and be content with what I have because any...

Modern Family: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray]

One of the best shows ever
We love watching this as a family - even though there are definitely some "inappropriate" spots, it's hilarious and the characters really do love each other, so it's not meanspirited.
Season 4 grows on you!
The writers of this show set the standard for half hour comedies. This ensemble of actors compliment each other so well, each episode leaves you wanting more. The difficulty with Family centered sitcoms is that the "kids" grow up. The multiple layers of ages in the young actor roles will provide many seasons of staying power - much like the Cosby Show has done. Regardless of the week's story line, the three family dynamic continues to broaden and become richer. Ouststanding cast, crew, writing and production.
The show got it's swing back here
The last season of MF was okay, but in Season 4 episodes like The Butler's Escape, Arrested, and The Future Dunphys show how the show has taken to laughing at itself. This season worked well.

Family Guy: Volume Eleven

this IS all of season 10
basically, this is the whole season. fox confirmed it on their website, so everyone, quit b*tching. i am super excited for this! FOX, TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!
Complete season ten...
I will say that this is all of season ten, 23 episodes with uncensored audio. There are extras, such as commentary on selesct episodes along with a few deleted scenes on each disc. I am impressed that FOX decided to put 23 episodes other than 14 or so and at a reasonable price.
Set Release Date, Amazon!
The release date has been set for September 24. This will surprisingly include all of season 10. Maybe Fox is turning it around.

Star Wars Trilogy Episodes I-III (Blu-ray + DVD)

May the BLU-RAYs be with you
Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray]

I'm a first-generation Star Wars fan since 1977, having seen the original versions of the original three films in the theater one time each as a child, then falling in love with them all over again on VHS in 1987. And I've been a huge fan ever since. The Star Wars Saga is the ultimate epic space opera and film series.

This isn't actually a review of the movies most of you reading this will have seen one or more versions of dozens of times, although this review will discuss some of the changes made to the films.

I actually own the six-film Star Wars Saga blu-ray set linked above, and I reviewed that. The movie discs in this product are 3 of the same discs from the larger Saga set, so I thought I would edit that review down to only discuss the prequel trilogy discs themselves and post it here. This is meant to be an overview with...
It's about THE PRODUCT!! (duh)
I am baffled by some of these reviewers who are climbing a soapbox about the industry and Lucas. For those of us who are patient, a box set with cost saving and a SPECIAL BONUS!! Slim cases so shelf space is minimized!
EXCELLENT!!

About a rush to market, snatching up media related to STAR WARS as soon as it hits the shelf. If you don't like the movies themselves or the packaging or the recording quality that is one thing. Whining about your own gullibility is quite another. Let me clue you in. If Lucas makes or includes special features, enhancements and the like ... he will not fail to promote that. Investigate the product before you buy. And to those of you who didn't even buy any products but are just looking for places to gripe, this is not the appropriate place.

This is the excellent product that I anticipated to the point of not buying any of the movies when they first released to video. It is as much as it promises to be. (I expect the same to...
Three solid films at a decent price.
A good opportunity to get all three films at slightly less than buying them separately. There's nothing new here, so it's only good for those who don't own any of the three films already.

The Heat

Absolutely hilarious, from beginning to end.
One thing I hate about female-driven comedy is the oft-sub par material that women have to work with. The punchline is always something tasteless or stale - like age, body image or gender roles. For some reason, the misogynistic question of whether or not women are funny is still a topic of hot debate. Kristen Wiig's "Bridesmaids" should have been enough to shut these guys up once and for all, but alas, it was not.

"The Heat" reunites "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, who, after 15 years in show business, was finally recognized as the star that she is, after the release of that film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Since then, McCarthy has been one busy gal - on her time off from filming her sitcom "Mike & Molly," this married mother of two has been filming movies left and right. She's a box office sure thing - the critically panned "Identity Thief" scored $135 million at the box office, and "The Heat", originally planned for an April...

Where do I even start? OK, lets start with the movie itself. The Heat was one of the funniest movies I ever seen, personally, I liked it better than The Hangover Trilogy. Sandra Bullock seemed odd in the beginning, but comedy queen Melissa MaCarthy brought out her inner sarcasm/foul language/comedy. The only con about this movie is the cursing, but hey, it made the movie even more enjoyable. Probably going to be the funniest movie of 2013.
Rude, crude but with heart
"The Heat" offers nothing new in the way of mismatched buddy comedies, but is hilariously entertaining regardless. Sandra Bullock plays an uptight FBI agent whose abrasive attitude has alienated her colleagues and whose shot at getting the big promotion rests on her ability to successfully complete a drug smuggling case with partner Boston cop Melissa McCarthy, who has her own, um, personality issues. McCarthy is currently alienated from her working class clan, too because of turning in her brother (Michael Rappaport), as a way to get him help for his drug problems. (Bullock's own "family" consists of a cat who used to belong to her but currently resides (his choice) with a neighbor.) The duo has the obligatory meet messy when Bullock filches McCarthy's parking spot and then mistakes McCarthy for a perp who's waiting to be interrogated. Neither attempts by their superiors (Thomas Wilson, Marlon Wayans) to mediate nor the stresses of the case itself is enough to make them meld...

Glee: The Complete Fourth Season

glee
i love this show. I enjoy the music selection as well as the storyline. Great entertainment!! Keeps me laughing and wanting to download music.
Great, but hate the ad for fox at the beginning
This was an awesome show, but I am little annoyed that fox thinks it can show an ad before the each show. I paid to watch commercial free.
Season 4 Doesn't Mirror Season 1-3
Basically, began watching after enjoying "Don't Stop Believing" remake video from pilot. Although considered mostly a "teen dramedy" I strongly suspect older adults enjoyed Season 1-3 due to great song arrangements from different genres and decades and strong acting ability from diverse characters. The show had an overall good message of acceptance due to the diverse nature of characters. Most knew the students did not look 15(exception "Curt") and likely no one cared. There was chemistry between characters, esp. Lea Michelle and Cory Monteith (Rachael and Finn.) The show was funny with it's quirky humor, esp. Jane Lynch as Coach Sue Sylvester. Perhaps her portrayal as ultra-conservative coach of the Nat'l ranked cheerleaders set on destroying "Mr. Shue's" (Mark Morrison)Glee Club seemed more outrageously funny knowing her character's portrayal couldn't be more opposite than her real life (based on interviews). Each character was well-developed. The show took on controversial subjects...

How I Met Your Mother: Season Eight

How could HIMYM ever go wrong?
I had just finished all of Seasons 1 through 7 on Netflix and I didn't know what I was going to do to watch Season 8. It's not on Hulu or any other valid website, the DVD isn't released yet and probably won't be until the fall AFTER the new (and final) season starts. I couldn't bear to miss more and find a way to catch up later, so buying the instant video episodes on here was one of the best decisions I've made! Season 8 is hilarious, touching, and everything else good about this show. I highly recommend buying the instant vids if you need to find a quick way to watch Season 8!
Amazing show
God, I love this show. I recommend you watch it now, its so funny! Legen - wait for it - dary!
Laugh out loud funny . . . Best Comedy Ever . . .
I love how the humor builds on previous episodes. Start with Season 1 and enjoy the ride. I love the references to growing up in the 80s and college in the 90s.

New Girl: The Complete Second Season

Best show on tv
This is an incredible show with a fantastic cast and stellar writing. The first few episodes of the show had a little trouble finding a groove, but it has gotten steadily more amazing with each episode. This second season was even better, with the last ten episodes of the season just blowing all other comedies out of the water. All the characters are amazing, and the story between Nick and Jess that took off at the second half of this second season has made them THE best tv couple of all time. Their chemistry just cannot be matched on any other show. The storylines are fun, but realistic and move organically at the same time. If the writers see a story developing (like the love between roommates, Nick and Jess) they don't hold back because they think they "should". They just GO FOR IT, and the show is so much better because they're willing to take those kinds of risks. They've developed and matured the characters at a realistic pace, without ever making you feel like they were...
Star Rating for FOX Ads! The Show Itself Is 5 Stars!
First, the show itself continues to be well-written and acted in the second season, so for the content of the show, 5 Stars!
ZERO stars for FOX's policy of putting advertising on the episodes.

Unfortunately, FOX has chosen to stick obnoxiously loud commercials at the beginning and end of each episode! A primary reason I purchase the shows like this is not to be bombarded with ads. I cannot imagine why FOX feels it necessary to put an ad at the head of each episode with a commercial for the show I ALREADY BOUGHT. Then at the end of each episode FOX insidiously inserts commercials for their other programming. I know I can skip through them, but I can do that with DVR from cable WITHOUT paying $1.99 an episode; I do not expect to have to avoid ads on episodes I purchase.

Finally, since this IS commercial-supported (and with two ads, it definitely is), the price should be lower than for other shows which are sold with no commercials, and the product description...
funny, warm, and addictive
You'll be watching half a season in a night if you're anything like me. This show only gets better with age.

The Way, Way Back

4.5 stars... "Let's try and get that score up!"
I had seen the trailer for this movie a number of times in recent weeks at my local art-house theatre here in Cincinnati and couldn't wait to see this movie. The movie finally opened today, and I went to see it right away.

"The Way, Way Back" (2013 release; 103 min.) tells the story of 14 yr. old Duncan (played by newcomer Liam James) who, along with his mom Pam (played by Toni Collette), her boyfriend Trent (played by Steve Carell) and his 16 or 17 yr. old daughter Stephanie, are going to spend the summer at Trent's summer house on a beach somewhere in Massachusetts. Right as the movie opens, Trent and Duncan get into an already destined-to-be-a-classic exchange: Trent: "On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you see yourself?"; Duncan: "a 6"; Trent: "a 6? more like a 3... Let's try and get that score up this summer!". Duncan has a hard time fitting in with anyone but he does seem to be able to talk to Suzanna, the neighbor's daughter who's just a bit older than him. Duncan then...
'The Way Way Back' one of the year's best.
The Academy Award winning writing team (The Descendants) of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash are back at it with the coming-of-age drama, The Way Way Back. Both Faxon and Rash write, direct, and act in the film, which stars Liam James as Duncan - a shy, uncertain 14-year-old that travels to an East Coast vacation house for the summer with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), his mother's boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and Trent's daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Trent and Duncan have a rocky relationship due to Trent seemingly always picking on Duncan or isolating him in some way - forcing Duncan into a world of seclusion. After arriving at the coast, Duncan feels out of place and miserable until one afternoon when he encounters Owen (Sam Rockwell), the manager of a local waterpark. Owen befriends Duncan, gives him a job, and encourages him to have fun while being his own person and creating his own path in life. The dramatic-comedy's supporting cast also includes Allison Janney, Rob Corddry,...
Absolutely one of the best films of 2013
Written and directed by the team of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (winners of the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Descendants), The Way, Way Back is absolutely one of the best films of 2013 so far. And even saying that feels inadequate because it's such a fine film, a coming-of-age comedy/drama with a great script, fine performances by a superb cast, and directed with a flawless natural touch so that there's never a moment where things feel false or forced.

The Way, Way Back is seen from the point of view of Duncan (Liam James), the shy and awkward fourteen-year-old son of recently divorced Pam (Toni Collette), as they head out on a summer vacation with Pam's also-divorced boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and Trent's teenaged daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Riding in the back of Trent's station wagon, Duncan is visibly less than thrilled at the prospect. It's quickly apparent why in the opening scene when Trent engages Duncan in conversation while Pam and Steph are...

The Internship

Non-spoiler - A lot of laughs... worth paying to see in the theater
I had high hopes for this movie based on the trailers and the previous Vaughn/Wilson outing "Wedding Crashers" and this did not disappoint.

Vaughn and Wilson play salesman whose company goes out of business abruptly, and they find themselves without prospects or hope. In a stroke of desperation/ inspiration, Vaughn lands them interviews for an internship with Google. Despite any technological savvy or skills, they find themselves engaged in a team competition among other interns with the prospect of full-time employment in the balance. Vaughn and Wilson definitely channel their fast-talking characters from Wedding Crashers and have a real chemistry.

A lot of the humor (and there is a lot of it) comes from the culture clash between these non-tech salesmen and the young interns who are incredibly advanced technically, but have no people skills or experience in the "real world."

While there are a few plot cliches involved, there are a number of...
Surprisingly Sweet Movie
I'm not sure why viewers go to this sort of film expecting total reality and believability, but of course with a plot such as this one, things aren't exactly real world anyway and for heaven's sake people, this is a comedy. I won't go into a rehash of the story as others have done that in previous reviews. I'll just say that I came out of the film happy to have seen it, I got quite a lot of good laughs all the way through, and my final impression was what a basically sweet story it was with sweet and likeable characters. Only a scene in a lap dancing bar made it a bit inappropriate for younger teens, but otherwise, it is a good story imparting some valuable life lessons for young people who think people over 30 know nothing. The two main characters were actually quite nice and lovable guys with refreshingly positive attitudes about life and how to treat other people, and ultimately they came out on top preceisely because of these traits. The film was completely enjoyable...
Nothing new here, but I had a good time
In spite of generally numb reviews I was lured into the theater just to see Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn restart the bromance that began with "Wedding Crasher" in 2005. Here they play Billy (Vaughn) and Nick a couple of watch salesmen just on one side or the other of age 40. When their boss (John Goodman) shuts down his business the boys are out of work and with no formal education or technical skills, they decide to apply for an internship at Google.

Since one of the terms of acceptance is that a prospect must be enrolled in college, Billy enrolls the pair at the University of Phoenix which Billy calls, "the Harvard of on-line colleges." They show up on the Mountain View campus and are surrounded by 20-something geniuses. When 5 or 6 person teams are picked, our heroes are left with a group no one wants to associate with. I'm not sure why as no one seems to know anyone else, so how this group is shunned is beyond me.

No matter, quirky they are but they are...

Bones: The Complete Eighth Season

Reaching for a new level...
The air might have gone out of this series after forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI special agent Seeley Booth finally became a couple with a child last season. Happily for fans, the show has found new ways to keep things interesting and fun.

The end of the seventh season of "Bones" left Bones on the run with her infant child after being framed for murder by the highly skilled serial killer Christopher Pelant. The opening of the eighth season finds Booth and her colleagues at the Jeffersonian Institute trying to clear her name. Fortunately for the series, they succeed, although Pelant eludes justice to pose a future threat.

This eighth season continues to feature crime-of-the-week murders for Bones, Booth, and the Jeffersonian lab rats to solve through clever forensics and Booth's old-fashioned police work. One of the most interesting episodes is told through the eyes of the murder victim, with the assistance of a psychic (a...

I just love this series. Each season ender makes you wonder if they will leave you hanging on the cliff waiting to see just what will happen next season....Yup! they did it again and I cannot wait to see what happens to Bones next season! What a GREAT show!
8 SEASONS and Time Flys
I don't have anything to say that I'm sure hasn't been already said. It's one of my top 10 shows and still being on TV this long and counting in my opinion says "Hey We're on quite a few top 10 lists and that says it all.

On the Riviera [Blu-ray]

On the Riviera
This is probably one of the most underrated movies of all time.

Alright, some of the musical sequences are dated - especially the "Rhythm of a new romance"-number - but the dialogue and the story are still extremely witty and funny. And it's Danny Kaye at his best. Not as brilliant as in "The Court Jester" three years later, but more mature and refined than in "The secret Life of Walther Mitty" (which is a great movie, too!), Kaye gives a wonderful performance as nightclub entertainer Jack Martin ("Ballin' the Jack" and "Happy Ending" are just wonderful). And he plays rich aviator Henri Duran who neglects his wife and only comes to his senses when he thinks that she's betraying him with Martin. Kaye is believeable in both parts.

"On the Riviera" is a very entertaining musical comedy and it makes fun of every glamour cliché ever used in Hollywood.

Highly recommended!
On the Riviera 1951
It's double the fun and laughter as Danny Kaye (1913-1987) gives a dual-role Performance in the uproarios musical comedy , ON THE RIVERA, costarring Gene Tierney (1920-1991) and Corine Calvert (1925-2001). When celebrated French aviator and Ladies'man , Capitaine Henri Durant (Kaye) is unable to attend an all-important social soiree , his business partners hire an American nightclub entertainer , Jack Martin (Kaye , again) to take his place . Bearing an uncanny resemblance to the world famou-flier , Martin becomes the hit of the party , especially with Duran's long-suffering wife , Lili (Thierney), an amorous young woman who can't quit tell the two apart . A madcap tour de farce , those songs , dances and laughts sparkle as brightly as its Technicolor . High Quality Transfer . Recommended .
Great movie
This is a great movie. A fun remake of "That Night in Rio with Don Ameche. Danny Kaye is a very verstile entertainer who can sing, dance and act. He really pulls off the double role he plays as an entertainer and a wealthy man who has a reputation as a ladies man. A couple of the songs in this movie harken back to my childhood and enhances the enjoyment of this movie. A must see!

Fantastic Voyage [Blu-ray]

Terrific reissue from Fox of sci-fi Cold War gem
Fans of 60's science fiction will appreciation the deluxe terrific reissue of "Fantastic Voyage" put out by Fox. While very much a product of the mid-60's, "Fantastic Voyage" holds up surprisingly well in just about every area. I doubt that fans need a recap of the plot but I have one at the end of this review if you're interested.

First up we get a brand new marvelous looking transfer for the film. It isn't perfect but it couldn't be because of the source material. Some shots appear soft and a bit blurry due to the process photography/visual effects added to shots but that's unavoidable and fairly typical of films from this time before digital video. Colors are bold and as bright as I remember them.

Unlike the previous release we get some really good extras as well. The featurette on visual effects has Richard Edlund ("Close Encounters", "Blade Runner") discussing the difficulty of shooting a visual effects film like "Fantastic Voyage" in 1965 (it was releasedin...

Often-overlooked classic finally gets its due on DVD
FANTASTIC VOYAGE has always puzzled me a bit. Well, not the movie itself, but the seeming lack of critical or popular accolades it has been given. Growing up in the seventies, I recall it was a staple of "All Nite Movies" on the only channel we received that stayed on all night. And the film was just a marvel to my young eyes: A team of scientists, including the incomparable Raquel Welch, is miniaturized and injected into the bloodstream of a comatose patient. What follows is a colorful and thrill-packed journey inside the human body. The crew of the Proteus encounters the body's natural defense systems, nearly gets smashed by the awesome force of the beating heart, and has to repair damaged blood vessels in the brain.

Doesn't that sound great?

It is, but like I said, for some reason the film is rarely talked about, even among hardcore classic science fiction fans. Be that as it may, 20th Century Fox is finally giving this often-overlooked film the deluxe...

White Collar: Season Four

Good Start to the Season
Neal and Mozzie are on the run with the money from the Nazi art theft (one assumes) and limited choices of places to hide that meet their demanding standards. Peter is looking for Neal to bring him back safely and to reinstate Neal as Peter's partner, but unfortunately a bounty hunter from within the system is also looking for Neal. Who finds Neal first and how as well as the revelation of where he and Mozzie hid is the meat of the episode, along with a thwarted local romance for Neal, a cute kid as helper and another long-time fugitive as the boss of the island as spicy sub-plots.

White Collar reinvents itself with this episode after a somewhat lackluster third season, I only hope that the show can keep the pace if Neal reunites with Peter. All in all though recommended to fans of the show and the suggestion that newcomers should start with Season One dvds or streaming.
Consistently five-star
Excellent writing, ever-inventive story lines, fine acting, characters who simultaneously amuse and make you care about them--in short, good old-fashioned storytelling.
Mystery Deepens in the Mid-Season Finale
Neal is a great character because he is both good guy and bad guy. He works with the FBI, but the viewer knows that he and Mozzy still hold all of the Nazi art - a fact Peter isn't aware of, but that strains credulity, especially after Neal and Mozzy were living large incognito in the season premiere so best that the viewer ignores that entirely.

In this episode, Neal and Peter host a panel at an FBI conference detailing why their partnership works and why Peter chose him. In a sweet scene, especially given the tension of late between Peter and Neal over the disappearance of Sam, Peter tells Neal that he chose him to be his partner because he liked him - hopefully making Neal feel at least a little guilty about all the ways he is deceiving Peter. The con of the week is fair this week. The real action centers on Sam, just who he is and what the truth is about Neal's father and the crimes that tore Neal's family apart when he was a child. Peter is convinced that Sam isn't who...

Vikings: Season One [Blu-ray]

One Step Closer To Valhalla: History Channel Presents Its First Scripted Series With The Nine Episode "Vikings"
After scoring blockbuster ratings as well as multiple EMMY nominations for the dramatic miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys," the History Channel is forging forward with its first ever scripted series in "Vikings." I don't know about you, but a series about Vikings seems perfectly attuned to a television market that is currently enjoying a plethora of dark and complex adult dramas on cable networks! Created by Michael Hirst, this nine episode series was shot in Ireland and looks absolutely terrific. One of the things that most surprised me on checking out this endeavor is just how expensive the series looks in terms of period recreations, sets, locations, and effects. It shouldn't be too surprising, Hirst has worked on a number of noteworthy historical dramatizations including Showtime's "The Tudors" (which he created) and "The Borgias" (on which he is an executive producer). As with any fictionalization, though, you should expect some liberties to be taken with the subject for the...
This show is great and more than fairly historically accurate.
Being raised in Iceland we started learning about our history at nine years old and we read our history as far back as Ragnar Lodbrok, we also learn to read Edda in its original writing, but that depends more on how long you stay in school. Lot of the knowledge also comes from archeological dig sites and artifacts. We are proud of our heritage so our history is relentlessly drilled in our heads. I know these characters fair to say, pretty well. Although a lot of the history of the Vikings was word of mouth until the 12th century, when the history of the Early Vikings- Icelandic- and Norse- saga was chronicled, mostly by the Icelandic historian Snorri Sturluson, it is fair to say that History Channel did their research extremely well, from the script down to detailed props on the set. The story in the first season, I have seen are accurate but of course, since this is not a documentary some fictional drama is woven masterfully into the story.

The actors are ALL great and...
Those interested in the Viking Era (800 - 1100 AD) will love this new series.
The writing is crisp, the storyline engaging (though based on limited known historical records), the characters are refreshingly multidimensional and brought to life by a cadre of very talented actors.

Watching history unfold from the perspective of these particular Viking invaders was fascinating, albeit violent and at times, stomach churning. Our present historical account is based on the records of monks and priests who were both literate as well as the frequently targeted victims.

Clearly, the Viking perspective is speculative, as they left few records, but I found it to be believable as well as wonderfully entertaining. It was a relieve to see there wasn't an attempt to whitewash or glamorize.

Kudos to the fine writers, excellent actors and committed directors for bringing history back to life. Double kudos for Vikings being renewed for a second season.
