A fantastic film about the fun and imagination of children at play
Remember playing war as a child? This movie brings the imagination and fun of those experiences to life in a lively, vivid way.

I found the film thoroughly entertaining, and it brought back fond memories of my youth.

Astonishing series, a must have and see!
There has never been another hour long television program quite like "Naked City". For those unfamiliar with this gem, the series takes place in New York City circa 1958-1963 and is filmed on location. Though the series is known for its humanist approach to the depiction of crime, this is no mere parlor drama: there is action aplenty and wide dramatic street scenes, shoot outs and car chases.

Prior to this complete set release, only some fifty episodes of one hundred and thirty-eight had been made available. That makes for another eighty-eight tales even if you own the previously released mini-sets! For fun, look up the locales featured in the show on Google Earth and see how things have changed or not. Notice pop-culture history in the making in the show's backgrounds, such as a copy of Spider-man's first appearance on a newsstand rack!

"Naked City" is anchored by four main characters, three of them police officers of varying ages and fourth is the youngest...
It's About Time (and no; not referring to THAT series)
It's hard to overstate just how good this series was, or what a time capsule it is. Another triumph for creator Stirling Silliphant. For me, growing up in New York City around that time, the series genuinely chronicled the streetscape - physical, people, relationships, drama and, occasionally, comedy. When the scenes were shot on location, there was no better show before or since. (If all of Kojak had been filmed the same way, that great series would have been greater still. And Telly Savalas argued exactly that point.) I've enjoyed the earlier Naked City DVD releases and am looking forward to this set. I just hope that Image does it all just beyond the act of releasing the series - plural - in their entirety. Standing by. A release date would be nice to know, too.

My Name Is Nobody (40th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]

Quick Draws......
This review refers to the WHAM! DVD edition of "My Name Is Nobody"......
Who is faster on the draw than the legendary gunslinger Jack Beauregard(Henry Fonda)?.....NOBODY! (Terence Hill). That's Who! This is the most delightful western, that the whole family can enjoy together(there is some mild violence and language).
Jack Beauregard who has made quite a name for himself with a gun, just wants to slip away quietly on a slow boat to Europe. But it's easier said than done. There are others who would rather see him dead and young gunslinger Nobody is hired to do away with Jack. Nobody is so taken with the his idol though, that not only does he want Beauregard to live, but wants his legend to live on in history as well. The pair become the Odd Couple of the 1890's and you'll have a fabulous time watching their antics.
It is filmed in the wonderful "Spagehitte Western" style. Based on an idea by Sergio Leone("Fistful of Dollars" et al), directed by...
Funny but stangely touching
At the risk of sounding like a pretentious academic at a film school this movie works on a couple of different levels. Sergio Leone's movies always did. This movie is a satirical take not only on the Sphaghetti Western but also on many of the westerns being made in the late sixties and early seventies. Not by chance is this movie set in 1899 - the end of the Nineteenth century. Here you have the young man who has been raised on a steady diet of stories about his hero and his exploits against impossible odds. Now his hero is old and simply wants to quit while he can still enjoy his retirement. The frontier is just a memory and he wants to go. The young man won't let him - he's a legend and by god he'll go out like he lived - in a blaze of glory. Like so many of Leone's movies this little oddball comedy western is actually a take on the end of an era, memories, myth and reality. Yes it is funny with a couple really great comedic setpieces. The soundtrack by Morricone is both...
Funniest Western Ever
I have seen many comedy westerns including Cat Ballou, Blazing Saddles, and City Slickers. None have made me laugh harder than "My Name is Nobody". Henry Fonda plays a retiring gunfighter, Jack Beauregard, for the law while Terence Hill plays a comedic young gunfighter, Nobody, for good. His methods are quite different and should keep you in stitches more than once. The scenes at the Circus can't be beat. Although he is proficient with a gun, you never see him kill anybody to make his point. Did I mention the musical score by Ennio Morricone is great? As mentioned in a good review, laurie's boomer views, you can play just the soundtrack. I love Morricone's happy go lucky intro song , My Name is Nobody, and all the western themes that dramatize the scenes with Beauregard. I do hope this will be released on DVD in the US and for a lower price. The import quality lacks a little to be desired so I am hoping for a better transfer of the master in the future. The WHAM! version menu is...

Blood [Blu-ray]

Missed the mark
Good potential, but fell short. The script felt rushed and contrived. A great cast, but just didn't have the material to work with. It leaves the viewer with the same empty emotion the actors must have felt going through the motions. While not a terrible film, it is a shame that it couldn't deliver with all the ingredients.
A superior detective movie
a violent and twisty crime thriller from the UK, in the style of "The Killing" and "Broadchurch", so if you love gritty crime thrillers you will love "Blood"
Blood
Liked the story form...how it was developed...characters relationship development...good to see before in theater...in home environment controlling the silence of viewing

Dark Girls

Great Movie
This movie is great. It shows what really happens. It will make you cry. It is very heart warming. Get the movie.
Insightful film
This film is about the personal experiences of people of all nationalities and races that have darker hued skin than their counterparts. A very well done documentary and worth owning in any household film library. The director has handled the subject with a candid thoughtfulness that lets the individuals that experienced certain treatment reveal their real thoughts.

P.S. and Reginald is an idiot.
Not the Only One...
As a woman of color, I was always told I had "good hair," "exotic" or some other description on a color spectrum. I have always had a distaste for it. Why wasn't beautiful enough. The history of colorism among American Blacks and around the world is saddening. It is often promoted and accepted. I stepped away from it years ago. The opinions are raw and candid, discussing what has rarely come to the forefront in documentaries. I am intrigued this was produced and bought a copy right away.
